NATO Maritime Command’s multinational NATO Response Force (NRF) exercise in the Mediterranean brought together no fewer than 23 vessels and some 5,000 personnel from 14 different NATO and partner nations. flagship of the flotilla was the landing platform dock Castilla, warships, submarines, combat aircraft, helicopters and amphibious assault craft trained in collective defense in Mediterranean waters. The objective is to train the forces that will be part of next years’ high readiness NRF to ensure they are capable of responding to a rapid response scenario. With the current situations in Ukraine, Syria and Iraq this training is very important.
