A recently released Lockheed Martin video shows littoral combat ship (LCS) highlights from 2014. The recent announcement that a follow on small surface combatant would expand the sensors, armament, and protection but retain the base hulls was followed up with the decision to re-classify these small combatants as frigates. The frigate designation FF will also be applied to the austerely fitted-out littoral combat ships already ordered after they undergo refit and upgrade to frigate standard.
