As the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos prepare for Super Bowl XLVIII and fans stock up on beer and food for the big game, another type of preparation is going on. This year’s Super Bowl is being played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., meaning that responsibility for protecting the skies over the game belongs in part to U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons from the New Jersey Air National Guard‘s 177th Fighter Wing. The 177th Fighter Wing is part of a larger effort involving the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the FAA, and even the Civil Air Patrol.
