The Littoral OPTECH East workshop will be held in Tokyo, Japan, Dec. 1-2, 2015. The workshop will examine evolving concepts of operations and emergent technologies in the increasingly complex and congested global littorals: an environment that serves as a nexus for near ashore, inshore, and onshore cooperation and conflict surrounding military, criminal, climatological, economic, commercial, and social activities that will prove critical to future global, national, regional, and local interests in the 21st century.
The workshop will be conducted with the academic leadership of the Littoral Operations Center (LOC) at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California – as invited by the Office of Naval Research Global – to promote international collaborative research among interested stakeholders in Asia and beyond.
The workshops will explore operational and technological challenges in and along the world’s littoral regions while engaging local expertise so critical to future research.
OPTECH East 2015 is the next event in a continuing series of workshops and symposia to share experience, expertise and environmental knowledge between U.S. Navy and allied and partner nations.
The NPS Littoral Operations Center played a key role in OPTECH West 2014, hosted by the Swedish Royal Society of Naval Sciences in Stockholm in September 2014. OPTECH East 2015 is the first to be held in the Asia Pacific region.
OPTECH East has the support of the U.S. Office of Naval Research-Global, and with the participation of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Swedish navy, and the defense company Saab, the workshops will explore operational and technological challenges in and along the world’s littoral regions while engaging local expertise so critical to future research.
