Raising awareness and funds for amputees who cannot afford fully-functioning prosthetic care.

On average, 507 people lose a limb each day in the U.S. Moving on from loss of a limb can be one of the most difficult challenges an individual encounters in life. Prosthetic devices help restore a person’s basic motor skills and mobility, but many amputees lack the financial resources to obtain adequate prosthetic care.

Limbs for Life Foundation is a global nonprofit dedicated to providing fully-functioning prosthetic care to individuals who cannot afford it and raising awareness of the challenges facing amputees. Through a unique network of independent prosthetic clinic partners, Limbs for Life provides new prosthetic limbs to amputees who qualify for assistance. With clinics meeting the needs of amputees in their local area, reduced costs for travel prevent further financial and emotional strain.

Limbs for Life also accepts donations of used prosthetic limbs and parts. This donated componentry helps reduce costs and allows us to put even more amputees back on their feet. Clinic partners may request components for any client in need of repair or replacement parts. Materials are shipped, as available, at no cost to the clinic or client. Accepted donations include complete limbs, parts and accessories, and soft goods that are new and still packaged such as liners, socks and sleeves. Items that cannot be re-used in the U.S. support international partnerships. Last year, over 2,400 amputees received assistance in 23 states and 24 international locations. For a complete list of accepted parts and other ways to help, visit the Limbs for Life website at http://limbsforlife.org/get-involved/

Adaptive sports and activities provide a tremendous outlet and resource for amputees. Limbs for Life participates annually in the Endeavor Games at University of Central Oklahoma. The event offers 10 sports categories with multiple events in each, ranging from beginner and introductory clinics for those wanting to explore activities for the first time to competitive contests at all levels for adaptive athletes, including Olympic Qualifying Trials in several events. The Limbs for Life Annual Benefit Golf Tournament, now in its 17th year, involves numerous amputee golfers. In 2017, Trey Hansen joined the LFL Golf Committee. Trey is a PGA Golf Pro who lost his leg following an injury and subsequent infection. Trey works in Texas and volunteers at the Limbs for Life tournament to share his experience and offer tips to participating golfers. The event provides a great opportunity to enjoy a day of golf with other amputees while supporting the mission of Limbs for Life.
