Boeing is expanding its F/A-18 support program under a $238 million award, according to a company news release. The contract extension will continue modification, repair, and overhaul work on F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet fighters that the company has been carrying out for the Navy and Marine Corps since 1999.
The May 5 contract extension will continue F/A-18 support work at the company’s Cecil Field, Florida, facility and include additional Hornet and Super Hornet fighters. Boeing will keep the aircraft up to date through a number of maintenance and upgrade activities. They include high flight-hour inspections, periodic maintenance inspections, in-service repair and modifications, upgrades and engineering.
“Our mission is to support the Navy’s effort to improve readiness,” said Boeing F/A-18 Sustainment Program Director Travis McBurnett. “Since 1999, the Boeing Cecil Field team has returned 880 modified or repaired F/A-18s to the Navy and Marines. We look forward to delivering many more in the coming years.”
