Exercise Cold Response began in Norway at the end of February 2016, and included NATO allies and partners from 12 nations, including Finland, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Canada, Belgium, Latvia, Norway and the United States. The exercise is taking place in the central Trøndelag region of Norway, and features maritime, land, and air operations to train NATO and allied forces to develop tactics, techniques, and procedures to defend against any threat in an extreme cold weather environment.
Some 16,000 troops will take part in the exercise.
